Self care is something we tend to overlook. In our everyday lives we have so many things to worry about that we are the last thing we worry, or even think about. But self care is an essential step in taking care of those we love!
If you have children, or even people we have taken care of, you've seen them when they are at their sickest, or their most tired. And what do you see? They can't move, and they can barely lift their heads off the pillow! And if you don't take some time, even a few minutes, to take care of yourself then you won't be able to take care of those you love. And that's your main focus right?
So what you need to do is find a few minutes a day to just breathe! Take a walk around the block, schedule a one time class, paint your nails, don't paint your nails, take a long, hot bath. Take a long, hot shower. But whatever you do take some time to just focus on you!! If you talk to your kids, and tell them "Mommy (or Daddy) is going to take a shower/bath/minute to breathe. So, you do x,y,z and when I get out we'll do x,y,z." Kids don't decide our lives, we do. Are they a HUGE part? Do they require an inordinate amount of attention? Is it incredibly difficult to find the time, especially if you're a single parent? YES!!! I know this because I am a single mom of 2 boys. So I know what I'm speaking about.
But one day I just hit a wall! I stopped sleeping, I didn't eat right, and I just couldn't go anymore. Then I started scheduling time to take care of myself. I'd give myself a mani, I'd write, I'd create a new product. But it was time that I took to do me. And as caregivers, we have to take care of ourselves as well. So please, take a few minutes to "just do you". A nice, hot bubble bath and a good long think and you can recharge your batteries. It's important. YOU'RE IMPORTANT!!
